• SMA Computers is founded in the US.

• SMA is awarded the "Hidden Champion 2002".

2001

• Changzhou SMA Electronics Co. Ltd. is founded in Shanghai, China.
• SMA celebrates its 20th anniversary.
• Staff from the Solar Technology business unit move into the new building at the Niestetal site.

2000

• SMA-America Inc. is founded in the US.
• The first CompactPCI component with Mobile Pentium III is produced.
• SMA is awarded the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes".
• Over one million electronic components from SMA are used world-wide.

1999

• Roll-out of the latest direct train METROPOLITAN. SMA delivered and installed its entire electrical equipment.
• Sunny Boys win a test run by the "Stiftung Warentest" product testing group.
• SMA obtains the "Innovativer Mittelstand" promotional prize for innovative small and mid-sized businesses for the development of Sunny Island.
• Also in this year the innovation prize for the Kassel district is awarded to SMA for its modular electric energy supplies for passenger train coaches.

1997

• First Pentium component (CPU5) is developed.

1996

• SMA starts production of the successful range of Sunny Boy PV String Inverters.
• SMA obtains an Innovation Prize for the development of the Sunny Boy.

1995

• First energy supply system is used in the new Touristikzug train of German Railways.

1994

• Order placed for a 4 MW diesel/battery system in the Australian mine of Cape Flattery.

1990

• First industrial PCs (CPU3) based on 80386 are delivered.
• Battery chargers for InterRegio trains of the German Railways are developed.

1988

• First transistor inverters for photovoltaics are developed.

1987

• The first-ever wind/diesel/battery system in the world is built on the Irish island of Cape Clear. It is officially opened by the federal minister of research and development Dr. Riesenhuber and the Irish Prime Minister Haugley

1983

• The one thousandth 8085 module is produced.
