Solar Energy Supply with SUNNY CENTRAL 630HE
In the Italian community Montalto di Castro medieval history and solar future technology perfectly complement each other. The PV power plant “Montalto di Castro”, about 100 kilometers north-west from Rome, has an annual yield of about 40,000 MWh. It is so far the largest PV power plant in Italy. 80,000 modules spaced about an area of 80 hectares harvest the solar power. To optimize the solar yield, modules are tracking the sun. 36 SMA Sunny Central 630HE inverters are feeding the electric current with their integrated medium-voltage transformer into the public grid. The extended input voltage range makes Sunny Central inverters attractive for flexible system design. The near-shore location of the plant is not a problem either: a special aeration system protects the components from corrosion by the salt-laden air.
