Utility-Scale PV Power Plant Australia Victoria, Gannawarra Solar Farm 60 MW

Gannawarra Solar Farm – 60 MW

Victoria 2018

The Gannawarra Solar Farm is the first large-scale solar farm in Victoria. It is powering 18,100 Victorian households. The solar farm is 94.9% owned by Wirsol Energy and 5.1% by Edify Energy. In this project SMA supplied 22 units of Sunny Central 2500-EV, pre-integrated into 11 units of Medium Voltage Power Station MVPS5000SC-EV and one Power Plant Controller for park control. SMA also provide technical support to customer’s grid study consultants, equipment commissioning and service support to certain actives in AEMO R2 testing.

With 60MWdc installed capacity, Gannawarra Solar Farm generates approximately 116,000MWh per year which is enough to power 25,000 Australian households and saved 98,952 tonnes CO2 emissions per year since March 2018.

The solar farm is spread over 132 hectares In November 2020, sheep were introduced to the Gannawarra Solar as part of an agrisolar trial in partnership with the Landowner. The Agrisolar trial at Gannawarra is a new industry benchmark, with the introduction of sheep grazing the first of its kind on the same land that hosts Australia’s first utility–scale solar farm.
