“The PV power plant Karadoc is another large-scale project that is contributing to the expansion of the solar market in Australia thanks to SMA solutions,” says John Susa, Executive Vice President, Sales APAC and North America at SMA. By the end of this year, we will have installed around 1.8 gigawatts of inverter power in Australia. We are happy that our robust, turnkey Medium Voltage Power Station (MVPS) and our plant control technology is the right solution for the booming Australian market. We are going to do everything to meet all requirements in the future as well and to continue to set technological benchmarks.”
Just like the Karadoc PV farm and the 50MW PV power plant Gannawarra in Victoria, almost all PV power plants that are built in Australia with solutions from SMA place their trust in the MVPS. The container solutions, each featuring 5.5 MW power, contain two Sunny Central 2250-EV PV inverter as well as a medium-voltage transformer and a medium-voltage switchgear. They are thus perfectly prepared for connection to the utility grid. The components have been adapted to each other, thanks to which the medium voltage power stations can be installed and commissioned easily.
The Karadoc PV farm was built by BayWa r.e. and is the company's biggest solar project to date. Headquartered in Bavaria, the company is also going to take on operation of the farm. Part of the energy generated from Karadoc will be consumed by the Australian brewery Carlton&United Breweries. In the future, the brewer wants to supply all its power from renewable energy sources. To this end, it will procure around 74,000 gigawatt hours of solar power from the PV power plant every year.
